About Us
Psi Chi – Lakehead University Chapter
The Lakehead Chapter of Psi Chi was given international charter status on April 1st, 2013. Our chapter evolved from increasing student interest of the Psychological Association of Lakehead Students (PALS), our student-union psychology association. This interest was sparked from our Founding Faculty Advisor, Dr. Michael Wesner who was an inductee and previous President of his Psi Chi Honour Society at Washington State University. Currently, our chapter is run by executive members who volunteer their time with the Psi Chi Honour Society. Our Chapter works together with PALS and Canadian Psychological Association campus representatives to recognize, foster and honour students’ academic achievements and scholarly interests.
Our chapter embraces these stated functions of the Association of College Honour Societies and aims to fulfill Psi Chi’s mission statement:
Recognizing and promoting excellence in the science and application of psychology
Psi Chi’s Vision 2020 Goals are used as a guide for planning and organizing all social and academic events at Lakehead University. Our primary goal is to advance the professional development of all psychology students while enhancing the student experience. The Vision 2020 goals are:
Scholarly Pursuits Encouraging members to conduct exemplary research, disseminate and apply research findings, and maintain a lifelong interest in exploring the field of psychology.
Member Development Providing information and opportunities to enhance members’ professional and personal lives.
Chapter Experiences Fostering a vibrant and meaningful environment for chapters and all members to contribute to and benefit from continued engagement.
